The Kamish (reed) QALAM is the backbone of Arabic calligraphy. Kamish QALAMS have been used by Arab, Turkish, and Iranian calligraphers as the pen of choice for more than 500 years.
It is made from reeds that grow along rivers. However, there is a lengthy process of “curing” the pen to make it ready for use by the calligrapher.
These pens are imported from Turkey and are made specifically for Arabic and Islamic calligraphy.
Sizes available: 2mm -5mm (Please note the size will be random between 2-5mm.)
• Reed pen which has been used in traditional Islamic calligraphy art for centuries thanks to its high writing quality is ideal for “meşk “ type of Islamic calligraphy.
• It is made up with natural reed straw. It is environmentally friendly material.
• You can use reed pen by dipping it into the inkwell.
• Its nib is prepared with a sharpener or knife.
• Reed pens have softer and more elastic structure than bamboo and java pens.
• The capacity of reserving ink can be increased through splitting the nib vertically.
